We moved them onto the stretcher and brought them out to the ambulance so we could start CPR and using a BVM. But all of us in EMS will see this in their time as a clinician. We can’t start CPR on the stairs! Experiencing the loss of a patient is inevitable, especially in EMS. Maybe some of you haven’t, yet.

The ambulance responded. They did CPR for a bit, and then loaded her onto a stretcher. The ambulance broke down in the driveway. Don’t hold the paramedics at fault just because the ambulance broke down. As a defense expert said, they don’t carry scales on an ambulance. The patient was in asystole.
