Here is the case: You are dispatched to a private residence (Paramedic/EMT crew configuration) for a female patient who gave birth at home and is now hemorrhaging. When I reflect on my EMT education (14 years ago) and my paramedic education (10 years ago), I genuinely don’t remember learning about postpartum hemorrhage (PPH).

It’s something called the flow state, and I think it’s the reason we keep doing what we do; whether you work a saute station in New York City or an ambulance in Arkansas.

Both EMS and the ED were not welcoming places for them. I was in the paramedic fly car and a BLS crew was in the ambulance. An EMT was already wheeling the stretcher down a short alley where his partner knelt by the dumpster. Sure there a few minor points I could nitpick, but the show does a phenomenal job of educating about the conditions that patients face and explaining the treatments the ED staff provides. Another EMT is made fun of for leaving the keys in the ambulance allowing unknowns to steal it. One last patient encounter I want to focus on.
